To wrap up the final day of the Golden Gloves tournament, Outlaws Boxing Club's own Juan Juarez stepped into the ring against Malik Scott Jr. from Brickhouse Boxing Club in the 143 lbs novice division final.
Before the opening bell, controversy struck when officials mistakenly provided the fighters with 12oz gloves instead of the standard 10oz. With both fighters already in the ring, the officials ruled to proceed with the bout using the 12oz gloves.
From start to finish, it was an all-out battle. Juan applied relentless pressure while Malik showcased his slick boxing skills. As the final bell echoed through the venue, the fight was too close to call. In the end, the judges awarded the victory to Malik.
With Juan’s power and aggression, one can’t help but wonder—did the glove mix-up make the difference?
Regardless of the outcome, we couldn’t be more proud of our team. Each fighter gave their all, dedicating themselves to the grind and having the courage to step into that ring. The lessons learned from this tournament will only fuel their growth as they continue their journey in the sport of boxing.
